My Career Journey: An Update

Well, it’s been a wild few years since I last wrote about where I was in my career (here, if you’re interested). It was 5 months into Covid being in the UK and a huge amount of personal life changes have happened since then, lots of which have been very difficult.

However, I have also been lucky enough to get a job as a Penetration Tester, which I began in January 2022. I finally feel like I’m settled in enough to start writing about security and penetration testing with any kind of authority.

I have passed the CPSA, done an Android hacking course, also passed the Certified Red Team Professional and Certified Red Team Operator exams, and am currently studying for the SANS SEC575 Mobile Device Security and Ethical Hacking exam (GMOB). I have a list of certs/courses as long as my arm that I want to take next and have dreams of attending DEFCON and/or Black Hat.

I’ve undertaken a number of web, infrastructure, API and mobile pentests over the year or so I’ve been there and am enjoying it greatly, I can’t wait to learn more and hopefully be able to give back to the community in time.

I have some great colleagues and have made some good connections on social media (mostly LinkedIn but looking at pushing more with Twitter) and also been helping a couple of people with their careers, which seems surreal.

Anyway, suffice it to say that cybersecurity is where I intend to stay for the rest of my life if I keep loving it like I do at the moment. As someone who loves to learn, and loves a puzzle, it certainly suits my outlook.

Onwards and upwards.
